Does Liverpool star Mo Salah get the credit he deserves or are his talents overexaggerated?

In the modern game it seems that footballers fall into two core categories: frauds and GOATs.

Those categories, however, feel rather interchangeable on a week-by-week basis.

You'd think Salah's achievements in the game would guarantee him a permanent spot as one of the GOATs, but the Egyptian has not always convinced every football fan that he is worthy of his esteemed reputation.

The £34m star's biggest critics use his selfishness on the ball as a stick to beat him with, and his shots per game ratio does suggest that he often opts to go by himself rather than look for a teammate.

The 28-year-old recorded the highest average number of shots per game (3.9) of any Premier League player in the 2019/20 campaign, which was considerably higher than Sergio Aguero (3.2) and Raul Jimenez (3.1), who sit 2nd and 3rd on the list respectively.

But does that statistic pales in significance when juxtaposed with everything he has achieved during his time at Anfield?

One Liverpool fan on Twitter certainly seems to think so, and he's jumped to Salah's defence by creating a detailed Twitter thread which aims to make a mockery of his critics.

The thread essentially highlights the staggering number of goal contributions he has provided for the Reds across multiple competitions, while a comprehensive list of his various awards adds further weight to the argument.

Rather sarcastically, the supporter opens the argument as follows: "A thread revealing how and why Mohammed Salah is slightly overrated...

"Made by an honest fan."

We've picked out some of the best tweets from the thread:

"In the 2017/18 season, he literally broke the premier league goal record for a 38 game season. He scored 32 goals (only one penalty). He also recorded 10 assists. 42 goal contributions in 36 appearances (in the PREMIER league)."

"Mo finished the 2017/18 season with 44 goals and 16 assists in all competitions. 58/60 of his goal contributions were in the league and UCL! He scored the most non-penalty goals in Europe's top 5 leagues that season and had 1.31 goal contributions per 90 mins. Different breed."

"In the 2018/19 Champions League campaign, Salah scored 5 goals and got 2 assists, including the goal he scored in the final to win Liverpool their sixth UCL trophy."

"Some of his individual achievements:
• 2x Premier League golden boots.
• 2x African footballer of the year.
• 5th and 6th place Ballon D'or.
• PFA player of the year.
• Premier League player of the year.
• Fifa Puskás Award.
• Most player of the month awards in a season."
