England were almost unrecognisable when they took to the pitch against Wales on Thursday.

Besides, it was remarkably pointed out by Richard Jolly that the Three Lions' starting XI actually had more Football League appearances (1,010) than Premier League outings (925) under its belt.

Nevertheless, you wouldn't have known that Gareth Southgate had cobbled together one of his more experimental England XIs to date as they swept to a 3-0 victory over Wales at Wembley.

England 3-0 Wales

In fact, the decision to play so many relative newbies to the international stage seemed to pay off with three players scoring their first England goals in the same game for the first time since 1957.

Conor Coady was perhaps the most unexpected goalscorer on just his second England outing, while Danny Ings thoroughly deserved his maiden international goal on the night of his third cap.

But of all the inexperienced Three Lions taking to the pitch, the occasion couldn't have been more dramatic for Everton's Dominic Calvert-Lewin who is enjoying a remarkable 2020/21 campaign.

Calvert-Lewin's incredible form

Astonishingly, the 23-year-old has already scored nine goals this season despite having only played six times, bagging hat-tricks against West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United respectively.

But no doubt Calvert-Lewin would swap all nine of those Everton goals for his first England strike, which came with a clinical header from Jack Grealish's cross under the Wembley arch this week.

It was the perfect way for the Sheffield-born striker to mark his England debut, becoming just the 12th player since the turn of the century to find the net on their first Three Lions appearance.

England debut scorers since 2000

Now, we have a sneaky suspicion that that statistic piqued your interest and no doubt Calvert-Lewin himself is curious to find out in whose footsteps he's following after his England heroics.

Well, fear not, because courtesy of statistics from the Daily Mail, we've compiled the exclusive club of players that Calvert-Lewin has now joined, so check them out down below:

1. Darius Vassell vs Netherlands (2002)

It's sad to think that Vassell's England career has come to be remembered by his penalty miss at Euro 2004, teeing up Ricardo's infamous winner, when it all started so well two years before.

In fact, the then Aston Villa striker scored one of the finest debut goals on the list, converting a bicycle kick in a 1-1 draw in Amsterdam, before going on to find the net six times for his country.

2. Francis Jeffers vs Australia (2003)

The legendary 'Fox in the Box' never worked out as an England player just like things never worked out at Arsenal, but at least he found the net during his only appearance for the Three Lions.

That being said, it was a night to forget for England as they slumped to a 3-1 defeat to Australia with Jeffers' consolation goal overshadowed by the fact a certain Wayne Rooney was making his debut.

3. Shaun Wright-Phillips vs Ukraine (2004)

Another dramatic way to announce yourself on the international stage with Wright-Phillips scoring a fine solo goal that was rounded off with a superb finish in a comfortable 3-0 win for the Three Lions.

It teed up the former Chelsea and Manchester City man for a pretty decent international career, too; culminating with inclusion for the 2010 World Cup squad under Fabio Capello.

4. Kieran Richardson vs United States of America (2005)

The only player on the list to have not scored once on their England debut, but twice despite being a late call-up for this friendly in Chicago during his days as a fledgling Manchester United prospect.

Sven-Goran Eriksson hailed his performance in the States as 'fantastic' and it ultimately bought him another seven appearances for his country, though he never found the net again.

5. David Nugent vs Andorra (2007)

One of few players to earn themselves an England cap thanks to displays in the Championship, Nugent will always be able to tell his mates that he boasts a 100% scoring record for his country.

Nugent infamously robbed a goal from Jermain Defoe - much to his anger, according to Peter Crouch - when the ball was practically already over the line to forever pen his name on this list.

6. Steven Caulker vs Sweden (2012)

Perhaps the most random name on the list, Caulker, like Jeffers and Nugent, will always go down as a one-cap wonder for having scored for England and then immediately never playing for them again.

But credit to the former Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur man because he arrived at the back-post for his big moment with aplomb, although a certain Zlatan Ibrahimovic sort of stole the show.

7. Rickie Lambert vs Scotland (2013)

The world really was at Lambert's feet during his final two seasons with Southampton, becoming a regular fixture in Roy Hodgson's England squads and eventually earning himself a Liverpool move.

However, things arguably never got any better for the 31-year-old Lambert than when he scored a fine headed winner over Scotland just two minutes and 43 seconds into his first England cap.

8. Andros Townsend vs Montenegro (2013)

We all know that Townsend has an eye for spectacular goals, so it only made sense that his first England strike, during the height of his rise at Tottenham, would come crashing in from long range.

In fact, Townsend delivered a Man of the Match performance, setting up the first goal to go with his rip-roaring finish for the third, to help England qualify for the 2014 World Cup with a 4-1 victory.

p1ek6119qm17la15t7gv1glj1t30s.jpg

9. Harry Kane vs Lithuania (2015)

It might not have been a vintage strike from the Spurs hero, but scrambling the ball home in a 4-0 Euro 2016 qualifying win was still a remarkable way to mark your 79th second in an England shirt.

Now, Kane is well on his way to becoming the greatest ever goalscorer in England history, already having found the net 32 times in just 47 caps to have record-holder Rooney sweating.

p1ek6126gj1olionmu31r79252u.jpg

10. Marcus Rashford vs Australia (2016)

In the space of what felt like no time at all, Rashford sensationally scored on his Manchester United debut, Premier League debut and England debut to announce himself to the world at 18 years old.

And like Kane, the United starlet joined the list with barely seconds on the clock, firing England into an early lead against Australia to become his country's youngest ever goal-scoring debutant.

11. Callum Wilson vs United States of America (2018)

In a game that will go down in the history books as waving goodbye to record goalscorer Rooney at Wembley Stadium, Bournemouth's Wilson also marked the night with his own piece of history.

Wilson rounded off a comfortable 3-0 victory with a fine left-footed finish at the near post and we can expect his international career to experience a revival if he keeps scoring for Newcastle United.

12. Dominic Calvert-Lewin vs Wales (2020)

Then, here we are, the most recent debutant goal of the 21st century and the only big shame for Calvert-Lewin is that he didn't get to score it in front of a packed house like his predecessors.

That being said, with the FA campaigning for fans to return to stadiums soon, perhaps the Everton man will get the lap of honour he deserved on his England bow if he keeps up his league form.

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

It's fair to say there's a mixed bunch of players for Calvert-Lewin to compare himself to.

No doubt the Everton striker will be hoping to have an international career resembling that of Kane or Rashford as opposed to Jeffers, Nugent or Richardson.

That being said, the beauty of this list is that no matter what goes on to happen to Calvert-Lewin as his career progresses, he will always have a place in the history books for his England debut.

p1ek615ds76g520dhem18ibduj14.jpg

However, we have a sneaky suspicion that Calvert-Lewin's first goal for the Three Lions won't be his last because seldom has a young number nine kept improving so exponentially.

Just when it looked as though 2019/20 was the season in which Calvert-Lewin announced himself to the world, he's only gone and started 2020/21 in more dramatic form than ever.

It feels like we have a 'Golden Generation' - dare I use the phrase - of England strikers right now, but Calvert-Lewin is near the front of the queue with a debut strike and hat-tricks galore.
