The debate between Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo is likely to drag long into their retirement.bRather than just appreciating two of the greatest players ever to kick a ball, we always have a favourite, and we always like to fight their corner.For varying reasons, there will never be one clear winner, though. In one corner, we have Messi. He's won the Ballon d'Or six a record-breaking six times and has 733 career goals across club and international level.The diminutive Argentine, meanwhile, has 34 major honours in his trophy cabinet. In any normal era of football, that would be enough to cement you as the best to ever life.Unfortunately for Messi, he has been playing at the same time as Ronaldo, someone who has defied the laws of physics when it comes to fitness and the condition of a footballer.Despite being 35, he plays like someone at the peak of their career. The debate in Ronaldo's corner is strong. He has now flourished in three of the top four leagues and has 760 goals to his name, winning the Ballon d'Or five times. In terms of major honours, he has 30 trophies, but crucially, has won a major international tournament. 
Messi is yet to do that with Argentina and he is now running out of opportunities. He is frustrated by this and even retired from playing for his country for a short amount of time.However, on a day where Messi marked his return to the Argentine starting XI on Thursday night, he was also being continuously mocked on social media.It wasn't because he was putting in a woeful performance for his country, it was because a video of his passing had gone viral on Twitter.Now, we know as much as the next person just how good Messi is, but when it comes to the trivela pass - playing the ball with the outside of your foot - his highlight real is rather embarrassing. As you can see, Ronaldo is simply streets ahead. We know the Portuguese has extraordinary flare but the way at which he regularly picks out a man in the video is sensational.
In terms of Messi, the less said the better. A lot of the clips are from the earlier stages of his career and that doesn't help his cause at all.
He kicks the ball out of play at one stage and even punts one pass straight into the crowd.
As it happens, the man being mocked actually has 56 more assists - 279 - than Ronaldo.
Obviously, the trivela isn't the only way of creating goal-scoring opportunities for your teammates but this is one area where Ronaldo is better.
