West Ham United are still trying to strengthen their squad.

The Hammers only made two permanent additions in the summer transfer window, bringing in Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal.

The first deal, of course, came after an initial loan spell, while the latter was struck at the back-end of the transfer window.

But hope is absolutely not lost.

Premier League clubs have until the end of next week to sign players from Championship, League One, or League Two clubs and it appears that the Hammers are hoping to take advantage.

Bournemouth’s Josh King has been identified as a possible target and they could now have been given a major boost in their pursuit of the striker.

Football Insider reports that King has personally ruled out moving to fellow suitors West Bromwich Albion, while the Cherries have also slashed his asking price.

Bournemouth are said to have cut his asking price from £20m to £10m, and the former Manchester United striker is said to have set his sights on joining a bigger club than the Baggies.

That may have opened the door for the Hammers, who are looking to bring in a forward after a number of departures in the summer.

Both Felipe Anderson and Grady Diangana have left the club – Anderson to Porto on loan, Diangana to West Bromwich Albion permanently – and that has left room to secure another forward in the window.

King is said to be very likely to leave the club in the next week but it remains to be seen if West Ham can strike a deal.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

King would be a fine addition for West Ham.

He would offer manager David Moyes the ability to field a positionally flexible front three of Jarrod Bowen, Michail Antonio and King.

The latter can play as a striker and as a left winger and fielding him on the left could see him have a similar impact to that of Son Heung-Min at Tottenham Hotspur.

Son is an excellent player, world-class in fact, and operates primarily off the left, though he is able to cut in and score at will. He already has seven goals in six games this season in all competitions.

Of course, King is not at Son’s calibre, but he would give the Hammers the opportunity to experiment, and that cannot be a bad thing.
