It really was a breathtaking display from Nadal in the opening two sets.

Djokovic needed a miracle if he was going to get back into the match and he showed his fighting spirit in the face of adversity.

This prompted an outburst of emotion by Djokovic, who then held serve to take the lead in the third.

Nadal broke late on to lead 6-5, before holding his serve to clinch a record-breaking victory.

Watch him clinch the victory below:

It was a deserved victory for the Spaniard, who was in imperious form once again on Sunday.

But full credit to Djokovic who displayed his battling qualities in the third set. Unfortunately for him, he was playing against someone who is simply unbeatable on clay.

The 34-year-old didn't lose a single set in the whole tournament. In 101 games in the French Open, he has won 99 and lost just twice. Those stats just sums up how dominant he is on his favourite surface.

Nadal has now equalled Roger Federer's record of 20 Grand Slam titles. He will have the chance to go into the lead on his own at next year's Australian Open.
