Every year, the Guardian put their heads together and name the best academy player at every Premier League club.

They recently did their 2020 edition, which you can view by clicking here.

It's no doubt that every player they selected this year is extremely talented. But time will tell whether these 20 players make the grade.

So, with that in mind, how well do they fare when they make their selections every year?

We've decided to go back to 2015 and look at who the Guardian thought was every Premier League's best youngster and where they are now.

Arsenal: Marcus McGuane

Where are they now? Nottingham Forest (on loan at Oxford)

McGuane featured twice in the Europa League for Arsenal, before moving to Barcelona in 2018.

He moved back to Nottingham Forest in February and is currently on loan at Oxford.

Aston Villa: James Finnerty

Where are they now? Bohemians

Finnerty joined Rochdale in 2018 after being released by Villa.

He's now back in Ireland playing for Bohemians after failing to make the grade at Rochdale.

Bournemouth: Corey Jordan

Where are they now? Bournemouth (on loan at Weymouth)

Jordan is currently on loan at Weymouth in the Vanarama National League.

Now 21, it seems very unlikely that he will become a regular at Bournemouth.

Chelsea: Trevoh Chalobah

Where are they now? Chelsea (on loan at Lorient)

Like so many of Chelsea's youngsters, Chalobah has been shipped out on loan to get first-team football.

He's currently in Ligue 1 with France after spells in the Championship with Ipswich and Huddersfield.

Everton: Antony Evans

Where are they now? Paderborn

Evans never featured for Everton. He joined Paderborn in January, playing six league games for the club before their relegation to the 2.Bundesliga.

Leicester: Darnell Johnson

Where are they now? Leicester (on loan at Wigan)

Now 22, Johnson is at Wigan in League One. He hasn't featured for Leicester yet.

Liverpool: Trent Alexander-Arnold

Where are they now? Liverpool

Alexander-Arnold needs no introduction. He's arguably the best right-back in the world right now.

Man City: Demeaco Duhaney

Where are they now? Huddersfield

Duhaney left for Huddersfield last year. He has been an unused substitute for their last three Championship games.

Man United: Callum Gribbin

Where are they now? Barrow

Gribbin has failed to hit the heights expected of him. After a one-year stay at Sheffield United, the Englishman dropped down to League Two with Barrow.

Newcastle: Mackenzie Heaney

Where are they now? Whitby Town

Heaney is now playing in the Northern Premier League, the seventh tier of English football. Talk about a fall from grace.

Norwich: Benny Ashley-Seal

Where are they now? Northampton

Ashley-Seal left Norwich in 2018, joining Wolves. After loan spells with Famalicão and Accrington Stanley, he joined Northampton in the summer.

Stoke: Luis Silva

Where are they now? Belenenses

The defender made the move to Belenenses in 2018. He has appeared four times for the Portuguese side.

Southampton: Callum Slattery

Where are they now? Southampton

Slattery, now 21, spent time on loan at De Graafschap last season. He doesn't appear to be part of Ralph Hasenhüttl's plans.

Sunderland: Josh Maja

Where are they now? Bordeaux

Maja is one of the few success stories in this list. The Sunderland 'Til I Die star caused controversy when he left Sunderland for Bordeaux last January.

He has scored 10 times in 33 appearances for the French club. He's also been capped once by Nigeria.

Swansea: Liam Cullen

Where are they now? Swansea

Cullen is still at Swansea. The striker has failed to score in 8 appearances for the Welsh club.

Tottenham: Marcus Edwards

Where are they now? Vitoria

Edwards signed for Vitoria in 2019. He's impressing in Portugal, having scored eight times in 33 games during his first campaign with the club.

Watford: David Sesay

Where are they now? Crawley Town

Sesay left Watford in 2018 having never made an appearance for the club. He's now a regular in League Two with Crawley.

West Brom: Tyler Roberts

Where are they now? Leeds

Leeds spotted Roberts' talent in 2018, signing him for a deal worth £4 million. He's still part of Marcelo Bielsa's squad in the Premier League.

He's also a Welsh international, having appeared eight times for his country.

West Ham: Reece Oxford

Where are they now? Augsburg

Oxford was compared to Bobby Moore when he was making his way at the club. He showed his potential by becoming West Ham's youngest ever player in 2015.

But, despite featuring sporadically for the Hammers, he never managed to become a first-team regular.

He signed for German club Augsburg last year, where he remains.

This list just goes to show how hard it is to predict future stars.

Liverpool's Alexander-Arnold has been the only real success, while Maja and Roberts have also shown their talent.

The rest have failed to live up to their potential. with all of them in their early twenties, though, there is still a lot of time for them to turn their careers around.
