Lionel Messi: Compilation shows some of his best ever goals outside the box

Will we ever run out of astonishing facts about Lionel Messi?

A remarkable statistic began doing the rounds on Tuesday night as Lautaro Martinez - and subsequently Joaquin Correa - became the first players other than the Barcelona forward to score for Argentina in a World Cup qualifier since 2016.

You read that correctly. Messi has scored every goal in qualifying for his country for four years, with an own goal the only other contribution.

Perhaps we shouldn't be too surprised.

The Albiceleste have so often been accused of over-relying on their talisman, but seriously?!

The 33-year-old will now return to Catalonia, where he has had a relatively quiet start to the La Liga campaign with just one goal in his side's opening three matches - and that was a penalty.

We are yet to see Messi at his brilliant best for his club and while he scored a spot-kick for his country against Ecuador on Friday, there is a feeling he is yet to really get going this term.

That said, it surely won't be long before we are treated to one of his moments of majestic brilliance.

In the meantime, Twitter's @tiniademaj10 has put together a compilation of some of Messi's finest long-range goals. Sit back and enjoy:

Even with Argentina not at their best against Bolivia, Lionel Scaloni might have thought he could depend on an inexplicable screamer from his key man.

After all, nobody has scored more goals outside the box than Messi since the start of the 2007/08 campaign.

It's an art he has accomplished time and again and many of them haven't exactly been thunderbolts.

It's almost as if he oozes the ball into the back of the net.
