Argentina secured a crucial 2-1 win over Bolivia on Tuesday night.Having won their first 2022 World Cup qualifier 1-0 over Ecuador last week, Lionel Messi's men became only the second team to maintain a 100% record after the following round of fixtures. That's no small statement when you consider they made the difficult away trip to Estadio Hernando Siles, which is based in the world's highest capital city of La Paz.

Tough away trip for Argentina

In fact, it was Argentina's first victory away to the landlocked South American nation since 2005 and marked revenge for the infamous 6-1 defeat they suffered under Diego Maradona in 2009.

However, that's not to say that the 3,640-metre elevation was light work this time around with Argentina being forced to come from behind after Marcelo Martins Moreno's first-half opener.

But the scores were level before the break when Inter Milan's Lautaro Martinez was rewarded for harassing the Bolivia defence by deflecting an attempted clearance into the net.

Bolivia 1-2 Argentina

Astonishingly, it marked the first goal that Argentina had scored in a World Cup qualifier that hadn't either been an own goal or converted by Messi since 2016.

You know what they say about London buses, though, because Argentina's winner also came from a different source with Joaquin Correa wrapping up the three points in the 78th minute.

However, that's not to say that Messi completely avoided the headlines because the tumultuous history of Bolivia vs Argentina was on full display by the time the final whistle had sounded.

Full-time fracas

That's because the Barcelona superstar took centre stage in a fracas between the two squads at full-time, seemingly aiming his words at Moreno and Bolivia staff member Lucas Nava.

You can tell from the footage alone that Messi is pretty incensed, but Argentine sports channel TyC Sports have gone one step further by lip-reading the 33-year-old during the back and forth.

Lip-reading of Messi

Messi is quoted as saying: "LA C... DE TU MADRE. ¿QUÉ PASA, PELADO?"

Through the often-temperamental power of Google Translate, it's fair to say we can pick up the approximate meaning there: "THE C... OF YOUR MOTHER. WHAT'S UP, BALD?"

Next, Messi is quoted as remarking: "Estuviste gritando todo el partido, boludo. Para que haces quilombo? Desde el banco estas gritandome todo el partido."

That roughly translates to you: "You were screaming the whole game. What are you doing trouble? From the bench you are yelling at me the whole game."

You can check out the full video of the exchange down below:

GIVEMESPORT's Kobe Tong says

It's truly remarkable that some people don't think Messi gives any fight on the international stage.

Argentina, like I've said, don't have the best record away to Bolivia and you could tell by the passion on display that Messi was delighted with the victory, celebrating with every member of staff.

To tell you the truth, it's some of the happiest body language I've seen from Messi in an Argentina shirt since the knockout stages of the 2014 World Cup.

And while, yes, seemingly - key word, I hastened to add - making unsavoury remarks about someone's mother is never justified, you can tell just how fired up Messi was about the game.

For whatever reason, scenes of Messi losing his temper seem to always be met with surprise, but make no mistake that when the GOAT has his cage rattled, you can expect a kick in return.
