Aston Villa have enjoyed a splendid few months.

After looking destined for the drop as they went into lockdown, Dean Smith's side have certainly showed that they mean business.

A late rally saw them keep their heads above water in the final knockings of the season, and since then they've rarely looked back.

It was always the intention for Villa to kick on over the summer but few would have predicted the manner in which they'd do that.

Significant deals to sign Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Emiliano Martinez, Bertrand Traore and Ross Barkley marked the end of a hugely successful summer transfer window.

That has led the midlands club to a perfect start in the Premier League with Smith's side picking up three wins from three.

But with the domestic window still open it seems like Villa are looking to add even more quality to their roster.

One player who they've been linked with is Josh King.

The Bournemouth striker has been heavily tipped for a move to the Premier League after suffering relegation last term.

While a number of clubs are said to be keen, former Villa full-back Alan Hutton has backed his old club to get a deal done before Friday's deadline.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: “I think Villa have had probably had one of the best transfer windows ever, in my opinion, they’ve done brilliant.

“To add someone like Josh King this late one would be another masterstroke in my opinion, it would really show what they want to do moving forward.

“There’s a lot of interest in him, I think the fee’s going to be quite big but I think the Aston Villa owners have shown they’re willing to put their hand in their pocket to achieve what they want. That’s to be a settled team in the Premier League.

“He’s a player if he comes in, he’s not only a striker – you’ve got Ollie Watkins, still got Wesley to come back, brought in Traore – there’s competition and everything’s looking good – but in the back of your mind, if Watkins picks up a wee injury, Wesley’s not back, who do you play?

“You’ve got Keinan Davis but who else can take on that mantle? There’s a guy who’s been there and done it in King. We know he can score goals in the Premier League and I think he’d be a great acquisition for Villa. I would like to see them go out and do it.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This really would be the icing on the cake for Aston Villa.

It's been a stunning summer for a side who look like they're preparing for a very impressive season.

Dean Smith has done a wonderful job of strengthening his side, and that can only bode well for the future.

Josh King would be another example of a top addition.

Proven at Premier League level, there's no doubt that the Bournemouth man would add another dimension to Smith's side and that's something that will certainly serve them well this term.
