Aston Villa have enjoyed quite a 2020 so far.

After securing promotion to the Premier League Dean Smith's side had just one target last term and that was to avoid relegation.

While it took some doing, Villa were able to do just that after salvaging their top fight status on the final weekend of the season.

But with relegation only being narrowly avoided, the focus this summer was firmly on moving themselves away from such trouble.

Based on their transfer activity it looks like they may just do that.

Deals to sign Matty Cash, Ollie Watkins, Bertrand Traore, Emiliano Martinez and Ross Barkley have already been completed, but Villa aren't finished yet.

The club have been linked with several players as the domestic transfer deadline looms, one of whom is Emi Buendia.

The Norwich City star could be available after suffering relegated from the Premier League last term.

According to the Daily Mail, Villa are competing with Leeds United for his signature, however a deal won't come cheap.

They wrote: "Norwich's Emi Buendia attracted plenty of attention after creating 86 chances in his debut Premier League season last term - bettered only by Kevin De Bruyne, Jack Grealish and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

"Both Leeds and Aston Villa are said to be vying for the Argentinian's signature and could bring him in before the domestic window closes.

"Leeds have a long-standing history with Buendia after the club failed to sign the 23-year-old before he moved to Norfolk in 2018. Marcelo Bielsa will be determined to avoid the same fate.

"Norwich could however command a huge fee with Buendia still having four years left on his contract."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is an interesting one to watch.

Described as 'top level' by Daniel Farke, Emi Buendia is a player with undoubted quality - something that he showed last season with Norwich City.

The 23-year-old racked up seven assists from Norwich City last term in an otherwise frustrating campaign for the Canaries.

While it was a poor season for Daniel Farke's side, Buendia was one player to come away with credit.

Leeds United have already been linked with a move, but it now seems that Aston Villa could also be keen on a deal.

As this is a fairly new link it remains to be seen whether a deal can be done before Friday's deadline.
