Leeds United dealt blow in pursuit of Scottish starlet

Leeds United have enjoyed an excellent summer.

After winning the Championship with a margin of 10 points on their nearest rivals it was clear to see that confidence would be high going into pre-season.

The Whites were preparing to come back into the top flight after 16 years away and knew that they faced a big challenge to get themselves ready.

Marcelo Bielsa is fiercely protective of his first team squad but he did make some notable additions in the shape of Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Raphinha who should take the group to the next level.

After picking up seven points from their opening four games it certainly looks like this business is paying off.

In addition to the senior players Leeds have also put a real focus on signing young players.

Cody Drameh, Sam Greenwood and Joe Gelhardt are among the talented youngsters who have made the move to Elland Road as they look to fill the pipeline of players that can push for a first team spot in the years to come.

But while it seems that the club are still looking, it appears that one pursuit has hit an unprecedented stumbling block.

Football Insider have claimed that Leeds’ move for Sam Campbell is in doubt.

The Motherwell youngster has been tracked by the Whites, Liverpool and Brighton over a potential move after impressing with the Scottish side’s youth set-up.

Aged 16, Campbell was expected to head to Thorp Arch on trial, however this has now been cancelled with one of Leeds’ youth players testing positive for COVID-19.

What this means for the move remains to be seen with the defender already having spent time on trial with both Liverpool and Brighton.

GIVEMESPORT’S Phil Spencer says…

This would be a very exciting deal for the future if it was to come off.

While Leeds United are working hard to establish themselves as a top Premier League side, they’ve also got a real eye on developing their youth setup.

If they’re to compete with the best sides they need to be identifying the top young talent in the game and that’s exactly what they’re doing.

Marcelo Bielsa loves coaching young players and that’s why these deals are so important to the club.

Whether Leeds can get this deal over the line remains to be seen, but it would certainly be encouraging for the future.
