This is what you really do not want to see in sport, or anywhere for that matter.

The year is 2020 (like you needed a reminder) and racist comments and actions are still being seen in sport.

Kubrat Pulev has caused outrage with his latest comments towards Anthony Joshua, as their scheduled fight for December is almost upon us.

Whilst speaking in a press conference, Pulev was asked on what he thought of Joshua’s strengths.

So, what did “The Cobra” have to say about Joshua?

He complimented the champ at first, stating: “He has a very powerful punch, undeniably.”

But what else does Pulev see as Joshua’s strengths? Could it be his movement in the ring? Or his ability to go the distance?

Sadly, this was not to be the case as what Pulev said next has caused obvious outrage.

“What are his other strengths? His tan is better than mine.”

An absolutely ridiculous comment, there is no surprise that the Bulgarian has faced massive backlash for his comment, with many social media users berating Pulev.

One Twitter user said: “I hope Anthony Joshua smashes the living daylight out of Pulev after that “tan” comment.”

Whilst others put it quite frank, stating: “That is 100% racist,” and “Don’t care what anyone says, this is racist.”

They are certainly not wrong.

Anthony Joshua, who is also celebrating his 31st birthday today, has been at the heart of the Black Lives Matter movement, which fights against racism that is somehow still part of modern society.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time that Pulev has caused similar outrage. Just last year, Pulev rather forcefully kissed a female reporter on the lips after his win against Bogdan Dinu. The reporter also accused Pulev of grabbing her inappropriately off camera, which she said made her feel “shocked and embarrassed.”

Something quite clearly needs to be done about Pulev’s behaviour, with one boxing fan tweeting: “Not acceptable - ban him from boxing and replace him as AJ's next opponent. Great opportunity for boxing to show zero-tolerance stance vs racism."

All eyes are now on boxing’s governing bodies to see if they will take any cause of action against the Bulgarian boxer.
