Tottenham Hotspur have enjoyed quite a summer so far.

Last season was bitterly disappointing for supporters as they failed to follow up the success of an unprecedented run to the Champions League final.

Spurs were expected to win silverware last term - or at least finish in the top four - but a series of off-field contract situations led to a disjointed campaign.

While Jose Mourinho was able to lead the team to a sixth place finish, there's no doubt that the club need to kick on this term in order to get themselves back on track.

Based on the transfer window it certainly seems that they mean business.

Tottenham made some solid early additions in Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart and Matt Doherty from Southampton, Burnley and Wolves respectively.

Those deals were followed up by high profile deals for Sergio Reguilon, Gareth Bale and Carlos Vinicius who arrived from Benfica.

But while these deals have all-but filled the gaps that Mourinho wanted to fill, it seems that there's still one key position that is being targeted.

Of course we're talking about the position of centre-back.

Several names have been linked with a move to north London but with time ticking away in the domestic transfer window it seems that there's only one name on the shopping list.

That's the name of Joe Rodon.

The Swansea City man has been heavily linked with a move to Spurs this summer after establishing himself as a key player for the Championship side.

No deal has yet been agreed for the Wales international, and according to reports, it seems that the ball is very much in Tottenham's court.

The Daily Mail are reporting that Swansea City are demanding a fee of £18million if they're to sell their star man.

It's claimed that Spurs tabled a £7million offer earlier in the window, but if they want to strike a deal before the deadline they'll have to match Swansea's valuation or continue the season with a defender on board.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Time is ticking if Tottenham want to get this deal done.

Joe Rodon is undoubtedly a top talent who is destined for life in the Premier League, that much we know from his time with Swansea City.

Described as someone who is 'destined for the top', Spurs would hugely benefit from this signing.

They need cover in defence and Rodon would certainly offer that plus a lot more.

The opportunity is there for Rodon to become an established top flight defender and completing a move in this window would be a big step for his career.
