Crystal Palace closing in on deal for international goalkeeper

Crystal Palace could be a real surprise package this term.

The Eagles finished comfortably in mid-table last season but will have real hopes of kicking on this time around.

Keeping hold of club talisman Wilfried Zaha was a big boost for Roy Hodgson's side, and that's been backed up by some impressive activity in the transfer market.

A big-money deal to sign Eberechi Eze from Queens Park Rangers was followed up by free transfers for West Brom starlet Nathan Ferguson and former Liverpool man Nathaniel Clyne.

They also brought back Michy Batshuayi on as loan deal from Chelsea.

But while these deals have certainly improved the squad, it seems that Palace are still looking for more.

With time ticking away in the domestic transfer window it seems that the Eagles are still on the lookout for a goalkeeper.

According to reports from talkSPORT, it seems that they may have found their man.

Jack Butland is a name that many English football fans are familiar with but things haven't gone to plan for the stopper.

The 27-year-old was tipped for a career at the highest level but has spent recent seasons playing for Stoke City in the Championship.

However it seems that the Eagles look set to bring him back to the Premier League for another crack at the big time.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This could be a really good signing.

Described by former Stoke City boss Mark Hughes as 'outstanding', a deal to sign Jack Butland could prove to be a masterstroke.

There's no doubt that the goalkeeper's stock has fallen significantly in recent years.

After all, he was one tipped to be England's number one goalkeeper for the duration of his career.

However a move to Stoke City just didn't work out.

Butland is now out of favour with the Championship club, and it seems that a fresh start could be exactly what he needs to get his career going.

At 27 years of age the goalkeeper still has plenty of time to fulfil his potential, and a move to join Roy Hodgson at Selhurst Park could be the perfect solution to do just that.
