Neymar, De Bruyne, Mbappe: Who are the most valuable footballers in the world?

Mbappe and Neymar make the most valuable XI

As much as traditional football fans would hate to admit it, these days, football is a big business.

The old school supporter has almost been tossed to the side by modern-day superclubs, who prioritise making money and turning a profit over offering a good match-day experience.

Don’t believe us? Well just look at the money that’s been thrown around by Europe’s biggest clubs in recent years.

Not only are transfer fees inflating, but the wages that players are paid have become extortionate too.

Mesut Ozil… we’re looking at you.

Sometimes though, clubs do get value for money. Certain stars are worth a hell of a lot these days.

With that in mind, Transfermarkt has recently created a starting XI of the most valuable footballers in the world and it’s worth a quite ridiculous €1.19 billion. So let’s check it out.

Neymar and Mbappe make the side

LB – Alphonso Davies | Bayern Munich | €80m

CB – Virgil van Dijk | Liverpool | €80m

CDM – Joshua Kimmich | Bayern Munich | €85m

Transfermarkt's XI is impressive

Now that is a team stacked full of incredible talent.

Notably, there have been two major additions to Transfermarkt’s XI over the summer months.

Bayern Munich duo Davies and Kimmich take their places in the team after having a brilliant 2019/20 campaign.

Bayern Munich's duo are in

The two men starred in their club’s Champions League triumph and will no doubt add to their already rising values this season.

Mbappe remains the most expensive player in the team. That’s hardly surprising, given all he’s achieved at the age of 21.

Mbappe is still the world's most valuable player

With time on his side, it’ll take an awful lot of money to lure him away from PSG but with Liverpool and Real Madrid reportedly interested, he could be on the move next summer.
