Current UFC Lightweight Champion Khabib Nurmagomedov does not believe that a rematch between himself and Irishman Conor McGregor will ever take place in the Octagon.
Khabib defends his title against Justin Gaethje in the UFC 254 headline fight on Fight Island next weekend and, according to Amercian Kickboxing Academy head coach Javier Mendez, Gaethje is the second-most dangerous opponent the Lightweight Champion could face.
This, however, did not stop Khabib giving a rather scathing assessment of his Irish rival rather than focusing on his immediate opponent.
In addition, Khabib was insistent that McGregor would never reach the top of the sport again.
In an interview with Yahoo Sports, the 32-year old said: “I don’t think he’s ever going to deserve this title shot because he’s not focused, drinks too much, smashes old people – he don’t deserve my attention.
“I finish with him. I made him tap out. It is only a money fight.
“Like, coaching with me on Ultimate Fighter or something forget about him.”
McGregor, who owns his own whiskey label, recently admitted in preparation for his 2018 fight with Khabib that he was ‘drinking alcohol all bleeding week.’
The Irishman subsequently lost the encounter when he tapped out in the fourth round.
McGregor explained: “I was drinking all bleeding fight week I had venom in me or something. I’d have a war, win and knock the guy out and go off and celebrate and come back in three days.
“I wasn’t doing what I should have been doing; I’ve made mistakes and I’ve been man enough to admit them.”
McGregor is currently in talks to face Dustin Poirier on January 23 next year, but he has reportedly become rather frustrated by the lack of fights available in 2020 following his win over Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone at UFC 246 back in January.
