Chelsea almost completed deal for £63m striking ace

The summer transfer window is done and dusted and there’s only one club who deserves the crown of top dealers.

Of course we’re talking about Chelsea.

The Blues had a window only likened to that which you’d see on a game of Football Manager as they spent in excess of £200million on new arrivals.

In order, they were Hakim Ziyech, Timo Werner, Thiago Silva, Ben Chilwell, Malang Sarr, Edouard Mendy and last but not least, Kai Havertz.

The hope for Chelsea supporters is that these are the deals that will see them improve on last season’s fourth place finish.

With Liverpool and Manchester City runaway favourites to secure the title, Frank Lampard will be hoping that his side could close the gap on the frontrunners.

But while the deals done were nothing less than spectacular, there was one deal which would have taken it to a whole new level.

Reports from TuttoMercato, via the Daily Express, have claimed that Lautaro Martinez turned down a move to Stamford Bridge.

The Inter Milan forward scored 21 goals last season leading to speculation over a big-money move to west London.

However the Argentine reportedly was holding out for a move to either Real Madrid or Barcelona.

Unfortunately for him that move didn’t happen and so he’s set to stay in Serie A for another season.

GIVEMESPORT’S Phil Spencer says…

What a deal this would have been.

Valued at £63million by Transfermarkt, Lautaro Martinez is one of the top strikers in world football and that’s why he’s been linked with so many of the biggest and best clubs.

Put simply, if Chelsea had completed a move for him they would have been absolutely unstoppable.

A team that includes the likes of Kai Havertz, Christian Pulisic, Timo Werner and Mason Mount would be a real force to be reckoned with.

In fact, you may as well just hand them the Premier League title.

Unfortunately for supporters that’s a deal that didn’t quite come off – but never say never.
