Everton vs Liverpool: Jordan Pickford produces shocking tackle on Virgil van Dijk

How would Liverpool bounce back from the 7-2 thrashing against Aston Villa?

Well, we’d have to wait almost two weeks to find out with the international break giving Jurgen Klopp’s side the chance to recuperate.

Following the internationals, Liverpool would face Everton. Not only a Merseyside Derby but Everton sit top of the league with a 100% win record.

Probably the last match you want to be playing after such a humiliating defeat.

However, when the match kicked off at Goodison Park, it was clear Liverpool meant business.

Within three minutes, the away side were ahead.

It was a lovely team move as Andy Robertson beat Seamus Coleman and pulled it back for Sadio Mane to hammer home.

Just a few minutes later, Liverpool were almost awarded a penalty.

Virgil van Dijk got onto a lofted ball and was brutally taken down by Jordan Pickford.

The assistant referee flagged Van Dijk offside, saving Pickford’s blushes because it was an awful tackle.

In fact, it was so bad that Van Dijk had to be substituted.

Pickford is a very lucky boy.

Van Dijk was soon replaced by the dropped Joe Gomez and his absence was felt just a few minutes later.

From an Everton corner, Michael Keane headed Everton level - an area in which Van Dijk so often commands.

Let's just hope the injury to Van Dijk isn't quite as serious as it looks like it could be at first glance.
