Aston Villa have enjoyed a fine start to the season.

Dean Smith’s side only avoided relegation on the final day of the 2019/20 season but they have already looked to put that kind of form behind them.

In their first three games, they have collected maximum points, beating Sheffield United 1-0, Fulham 3-0 and, shockingly, Liverpool, 7-2.

The final result sent shockwaves through European football and it appears that Smith is not only planning for now, but also for the future.

Villa spent significant sums in the transfer window, bringing in Ollie Watkins, Bertrand Traore, Emiliano Martinez, Matty Cash, and Ross Barkley.

That could have seen the pathway to the first-team blocked for young players but Football Insider reports that Smith has told Jacob Ramsey that he could be a key player for Villa this season.

The 19-year-old, who can play as a central midfielder and an attacking midfielder, has played six times for the club this season.

He made his Premier League debut against Fulham as a late substitute in September, while he also played in every EFL Cup game before Villa’s elimination at the hands of Stoke City.

Ramsey could have gone on loan to a Championship club in the domestic transfer window but Smith is said to have blocked those approaches as he believes the teenager can become a star at Villa Park.

In fact, the report states that Smith believes he is a special talent.

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

This is likely to excite Villa fans.

Smith is a promising young talent and he has made an impression both at Villa and while out on loan at Doncaster Rovers, where he scored three goals in seven games.

He has also won caps for England at U17, U18, and U19 level, and is clearly seen as the club’s next great young hope.

When you add Villa’s form and the emergence of genuinely talented youngsters together, one has to think that it is a recipe for success.

These are promising times in the Midlands.
