Liverpool had every right to be furious with Jordan Pickford for his challenge on Virgil van Dijk.
As the centre-back clutched his knee, he was seen to wave away the Everton 'keeper's apology and shout "no".
Sadio Mane then sent the England international on his way as his teammate was eventually helped off by the club's medical staff.
Van Dijk is undergoing tests on Sunday to confirm whether the injury is as serious as initially feared - beIN Sports even claimed he had "done his ACL" and would be out for the rest of the season.
That's not been confirmed, but either way Pickford should be contrite.
Ian Wright slammed the tackle as potentially a career-ender and in hindsight, it seems the stopper was aware that he'd been horribly rash.
Jordan Henderson has revealed that Pickford did approach him at full-time to pass on his apologies to Van Dijk.
“Everyone keeps asking us about it so I'm guessing it's a red card. It mustn't be a good challenge," he said, per the Express.
“To be fair, Jordan came up and apologised to me after the game and [told me] to tell Virgil.
“It mustn't be great. But yeah, not just that incident, we created so many good chances to score and overall we should've won the game.”
That apology will be little consolation if Van Dijk is sidelined, as it would be a massive blow not only to his own season but to Liverpool's hopes of retaining the Premier League title.
It's remarkable that Pickford stayed on the pitch. While he deserves credit for seeking out Henderson and holding his hands up, it's not a challenge an experienced goalkeeper should be making in the first place.
Henderson, meanwhile, had questionable refereeing decisions of his own to rue after seeing his injury time winner chalked off, with VAR judging Sadio Mane to be fractionally offside in the build-up.
It meant another two dropped points for the champions - but Van Dijk's potential ACL injury will be of far greater concern now.
