Last Saturday's Merseyside derby was overshadowed by two horror challenges made by Everton players.

The first was produced by Jordan Pickford after just six minutes.

The English goalkeeper caught Virgil van Dijk on the knee inside the box with a dreadful high challenge. The Dutchman collapsed in a heap and was forced off.

It was later revealed that Van Dijk had torn his ACL and is likely to miss the rest of the season.

And the second was made by Richarlison on Thiago in the final minutes of the game.

The Brazilian was sent off - and rightly so - while Thiago may be forced to miss some time through injury.

Liverpool fans were incensed at Richarlison's challenge and they had every right to be.

And it appears that Joel Matip was too.

Footage of the Cameroonian's reaction to Richarlison's challenge has only just emerged and it has Liverpool fans in stitches.

Matip was clearly consumed with anger and he did the strangest of walks as he approached Michael Oliver.

Watch the footage below:

Obviously, the challenge itself is no laughing matter.

But Liverpool fans are still in stitches at Matip's reaction to the challenge.

Matip actually has previous in the sort of situation.

Two year ago in the Merseyside derby, Matip produced a very similar walk after another poor Everton challenge.

He is really is a walking meme.

There were suggestions that Matip himself had suffered an injury in the Merseyside derby.

He was pictured entering a hospital earlier on Monday for scans and is now doubtful to face Ajax in the Champions League in midweek.

But, fortunately, scans showed the injury he suffered was not serious and he should not miss much time at all.

When he is fully fit to play, he will have to form a solid partnership with Joe Gomez in the centre of defence if Liverpool are to win any silverware this season.
