UFC 254: Justin Gaethje has won more performance bonuses than fights in the UFC

The American has fought seven times in the UFC Octagon, with his eighth bout coming up at Fight Island on Saturday – a lightweight title shot against current champion Khabib Nurmagomedov.

The lightweight has collected at least $50,000 bonus money in each fight with the promotion.

Gaethje’s attitude of “I either get knocked out or knock people out” has been shown in the last three years, with none of his fights lasting the full distance.

Debuting in 2017, the lightweight beat fellow lightweight Michael Johnson via TKO in the second round of the fight.

From his debut in the Octagon, he took home a ‘fight of the night’ and ‘performance of the night’ bonus.

His two losses came at the end of 2017 and beginning of 2018, losing to Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier respectively, but didn’t stop him from collecting his ‘fight of the night’ bonus on both occasions.

He bounced back in August 2018 with a win against fellow American James Vick. Again, Gaethje took home a ‘performance of the night’ bonus.

The prizes continued to reel in throughout Gaethje’s career so far, who has had performance bonuses with his victories against Edson Barboza and Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone.

He also brought in both prizes in his latest fight – a TKO victory at UFC 249 against Tony Ferguson.

This has totalled to an amount of $450,000 from just bonuses for the American. The highly-anticipated title fight between Gaethje and Khabib – headlining UFC 254 – is in contention to take the spotlight, along with the ‘fight of the night’ bonus.

Ahead of his battle with Khabib this Saturday, Gaethje has been training with current UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman.

Highlighted by Khabib’s head coach Javier Mendez, Gaethje will be challenging for Khabib: “If Justin can deal with the wrestling then he will definitely be our toughest test”.

The fight will take place at Fight Island in Saudi Arabia this Saturday, which every fan should be excited for.
