Mesut Ozil has been left out of Arsenal’s 25-man Premier League squad.Earlier this month, the German had been left out of the club’s Europa League roster and now he’ll be ineligible to play any Premier League games until at least January. It means Ozil is unlikely to play any competitive football until the transfer window opens in the New Year.Ozil is in the final year of his £350,000 a week contract and hasn’t played for the club since March. His exclusion is down to the fact Arsenal currently have 19 non-homegrown players over the age of 21, two more than the limit allowed by both the Premier League and Uefa. The other player left out of the Premier League squad is Greek defender Sokratis. It seems Ozil’s Arsenal career is well and truly over.

Ahead of Arsenal’s trip to Manchester City at the weekend, in which the Gunners lost 1-0, pundit Micah Richards praised Mikel Arteta for the way he’s handled the Ozil situation.

"Ozil isn’t playing for Arsenal because he won’t press the way Arteta wants him to," wrote the ex-Man City right-back in his MailOnline column

"If it had anything to do with ability, Ozil would be in. If a player has flair and is willing to work, you always find room for them.

"What I love about the way Arteta has handled Ozil is that he hasn’t allowed one bit of animosity to creep out into the sport pages.

"We don’t know whether they are locked in a feud or if there has been a row because the manager deals with everything so clinically.

"It’s a real skill, that. It’s easy for news of rifts to leave the training ground but Arteta has taken care of this so expertly."
