Leeds United are confident of enjoying a positive season.

After a season in which the Whites were crowned as champions of the second tier with a 10-point buffer on their nearest rivals, few expected the club to kick on again.

But in truth the Yorkshire side have taken to Premier League life with relative ease.

Two wins from their opening five games has seen Leeds settle in the top half of the table - a welcome return to life in the fast lane after 16 years away.

Much of that success has been down to the club's recruitment.

Deals to sign Robin Koch, Diego Llorente, Rodrigo and Raphinha were all completed over the course of the summer months.

Plenty more names were linked with a move to Elland Road, but for whatever reason they never came to fruition.

Two of the players who fit into that category are Todd Cantwell and Louie Sibley.

The duo play for Norwich City and Derby County respectively and look set for a career at the highest level.

While still playing in the Championship Leeds opted not to move for the two players, instead focusing on overseas additions.

Phil Hay of The Athletic was following the club's transfer business closely and admitted that there is a case for saying players from overseas offer better value for money.

Asked about inflated asking prices for Cantwell and Sibley, Hay said: "The domestic market is expensive.

"That's proven by the two forwards Leeds were looking at - Watkins and Rodrigo - moving for roughly the same price.

"Sibley and Cantwell are unlikely to have been much more expensive than Cuisance but by the end of the international window Leeds had already committed a lot of cash.

"You always have to be careful not to push it too far."

While the January transfer window is only 10 weeks away, Hay believes that Leeds are unlikely to make many moves at that point.

He said: "I don't expect January to be a dramatic month.

"They try not to do too much business at that time of year and they feel that their squad is in very good shape."

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Few can argue with the work that Leeds United have done in the transfer market.

With four new first team arrivals - along with the decision to bring back Illan Meslier, Jack Harrison and Helder Costa - the Whites are looking in very good shape for the season ahead.

That's why signing new players isn't priority.

The January transfer window is notoriously a seller's market which means that buying clubs rarely get the sort of value for money that they'd get in the summer.

In essence, that means that Leeds would be better served waiting until the end of the season to make new addition.

Of course if they need new arrivals due to a downturn in form then that will be considered.

But as things stand, it seems unlikely that they'll go out and spend money for the sake of it.
