VAR was at it again this weekend.

In the very first game of Gameweek 5, the Merseyside Derby was dominated by VAR. Firstly, by not getting involved following Jordan Pickford's horror tackle on Virgil van Dijk and then controversially disallowing Liverpool's injury-time winner due to the most marginal offside you'll ever likely to see.

Is there anyone out there who still likes VAR and thinks it's a worthwhile addition to the game?

We here at GIVEMESPORT certainly aren't fans of it. What's the point of it? Would any Everton fan really be complaining about offside if there was no VAR and Jordan Henderson's goal had stood?

That's why, each week, we produce a Premier League table showing how it would look without VAR. We're just trying to imagine an alternative universe where VAR isn't ruining the beautiful game.

Every Tuesday, we will go through all of the overturned VAR decisions from the previous weekend and determine how it's affected that match in question.

We will do this throughout the season and update the table accordingly.

So, how does it look after the latest batch of fixtures? Let's take a look:

14th | Newcastle | Points: 6 | Points difference: -1

Game: Manchester United (H)

Incident 1: Bruno Fernandes’ 16th-minute goal was disallowed by VAR after Juan Mata was adjudged to be offside in the buld-up.
Incident 2: VAR awarded a 54th-minute penalty to Manchester United after Jamal Lewis fouled Marcus Rashford. Fernandes missed the penalty.

Outcome without VAR (MAN UTD WIN): Without VAR, United’s 16th-minute equaliser would have stood. They wouldn’t have been given a second-half penalty but that was missed anyway. Considering they went on to win the match 4-1 anyway, we can safely say VAR didn’t impact the result.

Incident: VAR awarded an 85th-minute penalty by VAR after foul on Jack Robinson by Aleksandar Mitrovic. Billy Sharp scored it to make it 1-1.

Outcome without VAR (FULHAM WIN): We can only assume that Fulham would have held on for the remaining five minutes if Sheffield United weren’t given their penalty.
