Chelsea thought they had their goalkeeper position sorted for the next decade when they signed Kepa Arrizabalaga for £71.6m in 2018.

The Spaniard has been in dismal form for the best part of a year, though.

Frank Lampard decided to splash out on Edouard Mendy this summer, while he also has Willy Caballero as a potential option between the sticks.

And now, he is able to call upon a Chelsea legend as well.

That's because Petr Cech has been included in their Premier League squad. Yes, really.

Petr Cech retired from professional football last year

We couldn't believe it either but if you check the Premier League website you will see that Cech is in Chelsea's 25-man squad.

And Chelsea have posted a statement confirming that his inclusion is indeed not a mistake.

"Petr Cech has been included in the squad as emergency goalkeeper cover," Chelsea's website read. "This is a precautionary step due to the unprecedented conditions currently caused by the Covid-19 crisis. He takes up a position as a non-contract player".

Cech first signed for Chelsea in 2004. He made the last of his 494 appearances for the club in 2015.

He has been working at the Blues as a technical and performance advisor since retiring from football last year.

Now 38, he could pull on the blue shirt once again. He may be past his prime, but we bet he couldn't do any worse than Kepa...
