UFC 254 news: Justin Gaethje compilation video should concern Khabib Nurmagomedov

Justin Gaethje

We have a mega-fight on our hands this Saturday!

UFC 254 will take place on Fight Island as Khabib Nurmagomedov will take on Justin Gaethje in the main event on the card.

Many will likely fancy the Eagle to be victorious as he has managed to defeat everyone in his path to date as he has dominated the lightweight division, including foes such as Conor McGregor and Al Iaquinta for his 28 wins so far.

However, he could potentially come up against his fiercest challenger yet, with Gaethje a formidable opponent.

The 31-year-old replaced Khabib in his previous fight and managed to put in an incredible performance as he defeated Tony Ferguson in a contest back in May.

Gaethje has a solid Octagon technique, as he keeps his opponents on their feet and manages to keep them within arm's length.

And, boy, does he pack some power in his punches! Especially in that right hand of his!

A compilation video was released by BT Sport showing all of Gaethje's finishes and one thing was made abundantly clear - fighters do not want to get into a fistfight with this dude!

His first finish came via a brutal mauling of Michael Johnson in 2017, and although he was said to have finished the contest via the use of his knees, there is no doubt that his handwork was what got him in the position to finish the bout.

Gaethje's contest with James Vick did not last long as it went on for just over one minute (1:27). The American caught his opponent with a left-hand strike before following through with a devastating right to take Vick off of his feet with one swipe!

Edson Barboza took up the challenge in the next contest but he did not fare much better, having lasted in the Octagon a minute longer (2:30) than Vick when the pair met in 2019. The 31-year-old took a kick from his opponent, however he would then hit back with two vicious right hands that would see his foe eat the mat.

Last year would also see Gaethje take on Donald Cerrone but, again, he would only need one round to obtain the win. Whilst it took a little longer (over four minutes), he would go on to use his lethal boxing technique to finish off the contest.

As mentioned, his last fight came against Ferguson in a contest in which he replaced Khabib at late notice, but that did not stop him from putting in a devastating performance.

Having bloodied his opponent, a couple of left-hand strikes would see the referee decide to call off the contest.

Khabib might need to get Gaethje off of his feet in this contest, otherwise he could be tasting defeat for the very first time. If that right hand of the American hits him as well, then he might have to wake up to the very first loss of his career. Or, he could be witnessing the flip of the Octagon that the 31-year-old has made a trademark of his!
