Celtic are hoping for a historic campaign.

After securing their ninth league title last term the hope is that they can hit a landmark achievement this time around.

Victory this term would make it 10-in-a-row for the Bhoys - an achievement which would mark a decade of dominance in Scotland.

But don't be fooled into thinking that they'll have it all there own way.

Rangers are improving year-on-year and under Steven Gerrard they have a manager who would love nothing more than to stop his rivals.

As it stands Celtic are four points behind Rangers in the table after losing the Old Firm Derby 2-0 on Saturday.

But with a game in hand there's still plenty to play for.

Celtic signed a number of players over the summer including the likes of Shane Duffy, Vasilios Barkas and Albian Ajeti among those to join the club.

But according to Football Insider, Neil Lennon's side are already planning ahead of the January window.

It's claimed that the club are plotting a move for Preston defender Ben Davies.

The 25-year-old is out of contract next summer and so the Championship side are vulnerable to losing their player for nothing.

As a result Nick Hammond is hoping that he can strike a cut-price deal to bring the player to Parkhead in January.

It remains to be seen whether Alex Neil's side would be willing to sell, but with January potentially being the last chance to recoup a fee for the player, it's a proposal that they'll have to consider.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

This is a deal that would make real sense for Celtic.

Ben Davies is a good Championship player who has the potential to really thrive at a club such as the Bhoys.

Described by Alex Neil as 'a standout player', Preston would surely be keen to keep hold of their star.

Unfortunately for them his contract situation may well dictate how the situation plays out.

With funds limited in the Championship, Preston may have little choice but to cash in on the player if he's unwilling to sign a new contract.

Hammond is a shrewd operator and this would certainly be a great deal if Celtic can get it over the line.
