How crazy has this Premier League season been already?

We’re only five matches into the 2020/21 campaign and we’ve already witnessed some unbelievable scenes.

Leicester have thrashed Manchester City 5-2, Aston Villa humiliated Liverpool 7-2, Spurs went to Old Trafford and beat Manchester United 6-1 before they threw away a 3-0 lead in the final minutes to draw 3-3 with West Ham.

Everton sit top, while Aston Villa have a 100% record with four wins out of four. As already mentioned, Liverpool and Man City have suffered a troublesome start.

It would take a very foolish person to even attempt to predict what’s going to happen for the rest of the season.

While a human may choose not to, how about a supercomputer?

Well, Aqua Digital Rising have crunched all the numbers from the opening few games and predicted the final Premier League table.

We’ll let them explain how they do it: “Aqua analyses 500+ isolated data points historical, current, across social media, including player profiles, individual and team performance, as well as commercial positioning, and using AI, Machine Learning and mathematics turns the information into a continuous real-time index.  This can then be used to indicate where each team can expect to finish this season.”

So, how will the final Premier League table look?

Liverpool will retain their Premier League trophy, finishing above Manchester City by just two points. However, Jurgen Klopp’s side will pick up 16 fewer points than they did last season earning 83 to City’s 81.

After a fairly promising start to the season, Tottenham will finish in third with 71 points with north London rivals Arsenal making up the top-four, four points behind Spurs.

But there were just FOUR points separating Arsenal in fourth and Leicester in eighth.

Despite their strong start to the season, Everton will finish fifth missing out on Champions League qualification by a single point. A point further back is Chelsea which would surely see the end of Frank Lampard after their heavy spending in the summer.

Manchester United are a point and a place further back on 64, while Leicester finish eighth on 63 points.

Wolves and West Ham complete the top 10.

Elsewhere, Villa are set to finish 14th despite winning their opening four matches with Leeds a point behind them in 15th.

But who is getting relegated?

Fulham finish rock bottom on just 20 points. West Brom earn 11 points more than Fulham but finish 19th while Brighton are also relegated on 36 points.

Dev Dutta, Founder and CTO at Aqua, commented: “We have calculated that the season will be very competitive with Liverpool underperforming compared with the 2019/ 20 season, but just doing enough to retain the title.  Manchester City will be very consistent, putting in the same level of performance as last year, with Spurs and Arsenal both improving.  The clubs which could cause upsets are, of course, Everton, who we think will come 5th and Aston Villa who are expected to finish in 14th spot.  At the moment Villa are outperforming their expected potential by 150%, but the data does not see this as sustainable.”
