Tottenham tipped to tie up key deal ahead of January window

Tottenham Hotspur have completed more than their fair share of major deals of late.

The summer transfer window was incredibly busy in north London as Spurs completed seven major signings.

After the disappointment of last term it was essential that Jose Mourinho had some new names to feature in his plans.

He'll now be hoping that those players can guide the team to glory this term.

But while bringing in fresh faces was much needed, it's also key to keep hold of the star men already at the club.

One of those players is Son Heung-min.

The South Korea international is arguably one of Tottenham's most important players after forging quite a partnership with Harry Kane.

Son's integral nature to the club looks set to be rewarded with Spurs looking at offering a new contract to the player before the January window open.

That deal would be intended to bring the attacker's wage packet in line with the club's highest earners - something that Alan Hutton believes is much deserved.

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said: "Just give him what he wants, I mean that, whatever he asks for, just give him it. I think he’s sensational.

“He’s been that player that, even when Tottenham were struggling, he was the one that could really give you something. He’s got pace, he’s clever, he scores all types of goals, he’s got the whole package in my opinion.

“I even sometimes think he’s underrated when you talk about other players in the league – people talk about (Sadio) Mane and (Mo) Salah and all these kind of guys and he is way up there.

“That would be an absolute priority for Tottenham to tie him down, he is so key to what they do, him and Harry Kane have such a great partnership together, they link up so well going forward.

“Just give him what he wants, sign the deal, he’s coming into his prime. He’s not necessarily going to get better but he’s going to hold his standards for a long time so tie him down and get on with it.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Keeping Son Heung-min is absolutely crucial for Tottenham Hotspur.

Apart from Harry Kane, there's an argument for saying that the forward has been Spurs' most consistent performer over recent seasons.

Hutton is right in that he's underappreciated in the Premier League, as in my opinion he's every bit as good as the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane.

If Tottenham can keep him at the club then they have every chance of re-finding their former glory.

Extending his stay is vital to the club's success, and it sounds like Jose Mourinho and Daniel Levy know that.
