Romain Grosjean and Kevin Magnussen will leave Haas at the conclusion of the 2020 Formula 1 season.Grosjean and Magnussen are 18th and 19th in the drivers’ championship respectively and their departure means Haas will start the 2021 season with completely new driver line-up.French driver, Grosjean, joined the team back in 2016. The 34-year-old’s best result for Haas was a fourth place finish in the 2018 Austrian Grand Prix. In 92 races for the team, he has accrued 110 points.28-year-old Magnussen has won 96 points in 73 races for Haas, since joining from Renault back in 2017.The Dane told the BBC he had had a “great time” with the team and will announce plans for his future soon.Grosjean also offered reflections on his time with Haas, but did not clarify his future plans. He said: “I have learned a lot, improved to be a better driver as well as a better man”.
Haas currently sit in ninth place in the constructors’ championship. The US-based outfit have not clarified who will replace the two departing drivers.
The pair have been in close competition during their stint at Haas and fans will be keen to see the team’s re-jigged driver line-up next year.
Speculation is already swirling regarding the possible arrival of Mick Schumacher, son of legendary driver Michael Schumacher.
Schumacher senior was one of the sport’s most successful drivers, winning seven World Championship titles during his time with Ferrari.
He’s widely considered to be one of – if not the – best Formula 1 driver in history.
As a result, his son’s signing for Haas would be huge news. Whether or not Mick can produce the same world-level form his father did remains to be seen, but there is sure to be plenty of interest in his career.
Currently, Schumacher is part of the driver academy at Ferrari and the Italian motorsport giants are clearly hoping he will follow in his father’s footsteps.
