Leeds United have enjoyed a wonderful 2020.

Last season saw the Whites cruise to promotion after winning the Championship with a 10-point buffer on their nearest rivals.

What Marcelo Bielsa did was a huge achievement, but he'd be nowhere without his players.

The Argentine operated with a small, close-knit squad and that proved to be the driving force in helping Leeds get back to the Premier League.

With the Whites looking to avoid relegation this term they've been forced into the market to improve the level of quality in the squad.

But don't let that detract from the importance of his core players.

One of them is Kalvin Phillips.

The midfielder has arguably been Bielsa's biggest success story after the head coach completely revolutionised Phillips' game for the better.

After playing a quarter back-type role for Leeds, the midfielder is now a fully fledged England international and a player who is near the top of his game.

That's why his latest injury was such a blow.

Phillips suffered a shoulder injury during Monday's defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

It's been claimed that this could see the 24-year-old ruled out for more than six weeks as a result.

But a fresh update has suggested potentially good news.

Football Insider have claimed that the Leeds United man could return much sooner than first expected.

Phillips is undergoing rehabilitation at Thorp Arch and was expected to be out until early December, however a new date of November 21 has been earmarked.

Leeds face Arsenal on that date before playing against Everton one week later with Phillips potentially on track to be involved in those fixtures.

While nothing is guaranteed in his recovery, this will no doubt be good news for supporters.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

What a boost this would be.

Kalvin Phillips is the beating heart of this Leeds United side, and everybody knows it.

Marcelo Bielsa's side don't look anywhere near as impressive without the 24-year-old in midfield, and that could be a problem in the coming weeks.

Six weeks is a long time to be without your star man, and that's why Leeds are so keen to get him back as soon as possible.

Of course you don't want to rush the playmaker and risk him suffering a setback, but there's a degree of urgency here.

If Phillips can return ahead of schedule then it will be a big boost for the club as they look to continue their decent start to life back in the top flight.
