Tottenham Hotspur are hoping for a positive season.

After finishing sixth last term the sole focus at the club has been on improving their on-field performances this time around.

Jose Mourinho is a proven winner and will be able to pick up positive results, but he needs the right group of players around them.

Efforts have been made over the course of the summer to strengthen their squad with seven senior players arriving at the club.

Those deals were for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Joe Hart, Matt Doherty, Gareth Bale, Sergio Reguilon, Carlos Vinicius and Joe Rodon.

The additions have undoubtedly improved the quality within Tottenham's squad, but it's certainly led to uncertainty among some of the club's fringe stars.

One player in question is Danny Rose.

Described as a player with 'proven quality', the full-back looks like he's played his final game for the north London side after being left out of Spurs' 25-man Premier League squad.

With a contract that expires next summer Rose has been a hot topic of conversation, and according to Alex McLeish, it seems that a disagreement behind-the-scenes is the reason for his uncertain future.

Speaking to Football Insider, McLeish said: "It looks it, he looks finished, yeah, there’s no doubt about that.

“Danny was having issues over the last year, easily the last 12 months, that he’s been a bit rattled about his future with Tottenham. Back then it was is he going to go for a fee, will he wait and go free?

“I think Spurs were getting a bit miffed they weren’t going to be able to get any money for him. The way that it’s landed now it looks as though he’ll be leaving without Spurs getting a big fee.

“There’s been issues there for about a year and a half, Danny and Spurs just haven’t been seeing eye to eye.”

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

It's a real shame to see Danny Rose's situation playing out like this.

There's no doubt that the full-back is an outstanding footballer - in fact, I still think that he's one of the best in the country.

But his time with Spurs just hasn't gone to plan of late.

Despite a successful time with Newcastle United, Rose faces an uncertain future.

Clubs in the Premier League and the Championship will surely be keen on bringing him to the club.

I thought that this would happen over the summer, but now it seems that it could be January or next summer when he gets his move.
