Son Heung-Min is a brilliant player in brilliant form.

The South Korea international has been electric throughout the opening few games of the 2020/21 season, netting nine goals in eight games in all competitions.

He netted four goals against Southampton earlier this season, scored a brace against Manchester United and was also on the scoresheet against West Ham United at the weekend.

Son came off the bench against LASK in the Europa League and scored the third goal in a 3-0 win.

And it now appears that he is set to be rewarded for his form with a bumper new deal.

Reports suggest chairman Daniel Levy is prioritising giving the star a new contract in the coming weeks, as he looks to tie down the best players in the squad.

And manager Jose Mourinho has now claimed that the 28-year-old is close to putting pen to paper and committing his future to the club.

Speaking at his pre-Burnley press conference, he said, per The London Evening Standard: “I would love [him to sign a new contract].

“Son has three years of contract, so it’s not like we’re in an extreme situation of everybody being worried. It’s more that Son loves it here, I believe that he would like to commit his future to the club for a long time.

“Everybody at the club is totally in love with this player and this boy and is trying also to make him feel part of the furniture. It’s normal the club tries to go from three years to four or five or six, I don’t know. It’s normal.

“But it’s a very calm situation because Sonny has three more years of contract. But I wish [for him to get a new contract]. He deserves one. The club knows that and sooner or later, without any pressure, they will arrive into a decision.”

GIVEMESPORT’S Harry Sherlock says…

Tie Son down for as long as possible.

It seems remarkable that he is still underrated but this is a genuinely world class talent approaching the peak of his powers.

This season, he has been nothing short of sensational and he appears to be loving life in north London.

Giving him a new deal and making sure that he will not be snaffled away by a European giant should be a priority whether he has three, four, or five years left on his current deal.

This contract, more than anything, is a show of faith and one that is richly deserved after his incredible showings this term.
