Everton enjoyed an exceptional summer transfer window.
Under manager Carlo Ancelotti, they made attempts to strengthen the squad and build a selection of players capable of competing at the sharp end of the Premier League.
They secured three excellent midfielders in Allan, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and James Rodriguez and also looked to strengthen their defence with the signings of Ben Godfrey from Norwich City and Niels Nkounkou from Marseille.
Robin Olsen also came in on loan from Roma to compete with current No.1 Jordan Pickford.
They have enjoyed an exceptional start to the season, too, as they have beaten Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion, Crystal Palace, and Brighton & Hove Albion, and also held champions Liverpool to a 2-2 draw in a fractious Merseyside derby.
It seems that they have had their fair share of disappointments in the transfer window too, though.
Sport Witness carries a report from Ole, the Argentine newspaper, claiming that the Toffees attempted to sign Santiago Sosa in 2019.
The River Plate midfielder saw a move fall through despite the two clubs agreeing a €15m (£13.6m) fee; the deal was ultimately blocked by the Premier League.
Sosa actually received a European passport a few days after the failed move, potentially opening the door to him eventually moving to England, be it to Merseyside or not.
Sosa has made 10 appearances for River Plate in total, while also winning nine caps for Argentina’s U20 team.

It’s probably for the best that this deal didn’t work out.
Everton have signed three excellent midfielders this summer and one has to feel that Sosa’s pathway would have been blocked had he actually moved to Goodison Park.
He is only 21 and is clearly regarded as a promising talent given the money involved in the potential deal.
Now that he has his European passport, a move to the continent could ultimately happen, but the player himself may have had a lucky escape given the names currently in Ancelotti’s midfield pecking order.
It is now down to him to prove his worth and see if he can convince the Toffees to return to the negotiating table.
