Heskey facing no action

Aston Villa striker Emile Heskey will face no disciplinary action in relation to his behaviour during Saturday's Barclays Premier League clash with Wigan.

The former England forward barged into referee Mike Jones during the first half at Villa Park and was cautioned.

Heskey felt he was not being given sufficient protection by the Cheshire official after being on the receiving end of several challenges from Latics defenders. He was still angry at half-time and had to be restrained by team-mates and staff in the players' tunnel after leaving the pitch.

Jones could have brandished a second yellow card or even a straight red had he felt Heskey's behaviour was unacceptable during the interval.

But the official did not opt for that course of action and it is anticipated that will be the end of the matter.

Heskey was substituted at half-time as Villa caretaker manager Gary McAllister was concerned about keeping 11 players on the pitch for the second 45 minutes.

The former Liverpool man left the ground and did not view the second half of the 1-1 draw.

McAllister, when asked if Heskey had been involved in a tunnel incident, said: "I think he was a wee bit robust and maybe waiting to speak to the referee again."

McAllister has already indicated he will be taking no disciplinary action against Heskey.
