Newcastle United have hopes of kicking on this term.

Last season was a mixed campaign for the Magpies as they stuttered their way through a frustrating year.

Steve Bruce's side may have avoided relegation relatively comfortably, but it was far from entertaining to watch.

That's why the hope this season was that the club would undergo massive improvements.

A proposed £300million takeover promised to take the club to the next level, but when that fell through it seemed like this year would bring more of the same.

But some solid additions in the transfer market have once again brought hope to the supporters.

Mark Gillespie and Jeff Hendrick were first through the door after arriving on free transfers, before deals to sign Callum Wilson, Ryan Fraser and Jamal Lewis were also completed.

However it seems that Bruce is looking at a new addition in the January transfer window.

Teamtalk have claimed that Newcastle are interested in Liam Moore.

The Reading captain is attracting the attention of several top flight clubs, including Leicester City, Wolves, West Ham, Southampton and Crystal Palace.

Moore has played an integral part in the Royals' wonderful start to the Championship season in which they've kept five clean sheets in six games.

GIVEMESPORT'S Phil Spencer says...

Liam Moore is one of the best players in the Championship.

Described as being 'very good', the centre-back is a player who has proven his worth over a number of seasons.

However now is the time for him to make his move into the Premier League.

At the age of 27 Moore is entering his prime years and so this is when he needs to stretch himself by playing at the highest level possible.

Of course Reading won't want to lose him.

As their captain Moore has real value for the Royals, and that's why the Championship side are unlikely to want to lose him for any price.

If Newcastle want to get a deal done they'll need to pay a decent sum, otherwise they risk missing out.
