Liverpool were the heavy favourites heading into their Premier League clash against Sheffield United on Saturday evening.
Even without talismanic defender Virgil van Dijk, who is expected to be sidelined until next season with a knee injury, the reigning champions were expected to comfortably beat Chris Wilder’s side.
However, it was the visitors who took a shock lead at Anfield - thanks to a hugely controversial penalty.
Fabinho slid in on Ollie McBurnie on the edge of the box and the incident was reviewed by VAR Andre Marriner.
Referee Mike Dean then pointed to the spot after being told Fabinho’s foul did warrant a penalty.
Sander Berge duly stepped up and converted from the spot to hand Sheffield United a shock lead.
However, replays showed this was a hugely controversial call.
Many football fans believe that not only did Fabinho win the ball fairly, but the Brazilian’s challenge on McBurnie was made *outside* the box.

And this update came at half-time. Just when you thought VAR couldn't get more farcical...
Liverpool found themselves on the receiving end of several controversial VAR decisions during last weekend’s Merseyside derby against Everton.
David Coote was subsequently dropped from referee duties following his performance.
Marriner now faces similar questions following his VAR call during Saturday night’s match.
