Benfica defender Fabio Coentrao is locked in negotiations with Bayern Munich with Chelsea also prowling around the Portugese defender, reports talkSPORT.
The full-back, who is also being targeted by Real Madrid, is one of the most sought after defenders in Europe and is valued at £26 million.
However, after coveting him for some months, Bayern have stolen a march on Chelsea in a bid to land the talented defender.
Chelsea signalled their intentions of bringing some much needed youth to their defence when they signed David Luiz in the January transfer window, and Coentrao, naturally a left-back, could replace Ashley Cole on the left-hand side.
What could work in Chelsea's favour in signing Coentrao is the wealth of their owner Roman Abromovich, who will be able to offer plenty more than the £19 million that Munich are reportedly willing to spend on the Portugal international.
