Arsenal are looking at Leighton Baines as a replacement for Gael Clichy, rather than Liverpool target Jose Enrique, according to the Metro.

Baines has been valued by Everton at £10 million, and would head to Arsenal for a cheaper price than Enrique, who has a £15 million price tag over his head.

Clichy has reportedly become disillusioned with Arsenal after they look to go a sixth straight season without a trophy. The Frenchman’s contract expires in June 2012, so this summer he will either need to sign a new contract or Arsenal will no doubt sell the star to recoup some money for a replacement.

Arsenal were thought to be interested in Liverpool target Jose Enrique to replace Clichy, but with Liverpool manager Kenny Dalglish taking a personal liking to Enrique, Arsenal will be hard pressed to match any offer made by Liverpool for the Spanish Newcastle left back.

Meanwhile, Baines has been a star for Everton this season, and the 26-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs as the season winds down to an end. Arsenal reportedly see Baines as a better value for money replacement.

On Clichy’s future, both Clichy and Wenger are cagey, with Wenger insisting a deal will be discussed shortly.

“We will sort all these cases out at the end of the season,” the Arsenal manager said.

Recently, Clichy said that he saw his future with Arsenal, though the star pointed at wanting to win trophies during his football career.

“I know that there are rumours about me going elsewhere but I have nothing to say about that,” Clichy said.

“I have always wanted to be at a club where I am content. Money is important but it is not a decisive factor. All I want is to win a title – that’s my ultimate ambition.”

The comments were made when Arsenal were still in the fight for the title, and now the London club are looking sure to finish third on the Barclays Premier League table, Clichy's satisfaction with the Gunners may have changed too.
