The man responsible for the best WWE promo of all time turns 42 today.

Every fan can remember where they were when CM Punk sat at the top of the runway to deliver the 'pipebomb' on an episode of Monday Night RAW back in 2011.

“(John) Cena, while you lay there, hopefully as uncomfortable as you possibly can be…,” is how Punk started his six-minute promo.

It is one of, if not the most, infamous promos in WWE and wrestling history, with just one man on the mic; CM Punk.

“…maybe this company will be better after Vince McMahon’s dead,” said CM Punk moments before his mic was cut out.

This promo came at a time during a feud Punk had with WWE legend John Cena, who had just been defeated in the ring by R-Truth in a tables match.

Punk was leaving the company with his last night under contract at a PPV event where he had a match with Cena for the WWE Championship.

This match ended with Punk victorious and leaving the company with the title belt in hand.

However, after another infamous promo during a contract signing with Vince McMahon, Punk did re-sign with the WWE.

‘The Best In The World’ had many more memorable moments throughout his career, including his first title win in the company, defeating Edge to claim the World Heavyweight Championship.

This came after Punk won a Money In The Bank ladder match at WrestleMania 24, and after moving to the RAW brand in the WWE Draft in 2008, Punk ran to the ring to ‘cash in’ on Edge, who had just taken a beating from Batista.

Punk had to forfeit his title after an assault from ‘The Viper’ Randy Orton and Legacy, however, which meant he was out of action and couldn’t defend his title, ending his reign of 69 days as champion.

After Punk formed and later disbanded his ‘Straight Edge Society’ faction, in 2011 he became the leader of ‘The New Nexus’.

Nexus had been formed the previous year by Wade Barrett, who Punk replaced, before taking control of the faction. Here, he set his sights on revenge on Orton for stripping him of his world title.

It was here where Punk went for the WWE Championship and was successful, with a reign of 434 days, recognised as the longest championship reign in the modern era of WWE (until 2018, where Brock Lesnar broke the record).

So here's to you, CM Punk, and here's to hoping you'll return to WWE one day... happy birthday!
