Another Premier League weekend, more VAR controversy.
The introduction of technology was supposed to eradicate wrong decisions. Instead, it just takes five minutes for a man in a Portakabin to make the wrong decision.
Honesty, what's the point?
We here at GIVEMESPORT really wish the beautiful game wasn't being ruined by VAR.
That's why, each week, we produce an article showing how the Premier League table would look without the interference of VAR.
To do so, we look at every overturned VAR decision from the previous weekend and work out how it's influenced the match in question. We then adjust our league table based on the predicted outcome accordingly.
In truth, it was a quiet weekend for overturned VAR decisions. It awarded Sheffield United a penalty against Liverpool, ruled Mohamed Salah's goal offside, while it also sent Aboubakar Kamara off during Fulham's loss to Crystal Palace.
Remember, we're only looking at how the table would look without VAR. Therefore, wrong refereeing decisions - such as the penalty Manchester United felt they should have been awarded against Chelsea - doesn't come into our thinking.
Anyway, let's take a look at how the Premier League table would look without VAR following gameweek six. And yes, 'LiVARpool' would be top!
1st | Liverpool | Points: 15 | Points difference: +2
Game: Sheffield United (H)
Incident 1: Sheffield United were awarded a penalty in the 10th minute after Fabinho was adjudged by VAR to have fouled Oliver McBurnie inside the box. Sander Berge scored the penalty.
Incident 2: Mohamed Salah’s 62nd minute strike appeared to put Liverpool 2-1 up but VAR ruled that he was just offside.
Outcome without VAR (LIVERPOOL WIN): Without VAR, Sheffield United wouldn’t have been awarded a penalty as Mike Dean initially gave a free-kick. Salah’s goal would also have counted. Liverpool won the match 2-1 anyway.
