Marseille 0-3 Man City: Phil Foden proved he has velcro on his boots with filthy first touch

Phil Foden dazzled for Man City in their 3-0 win away in Marseille

Philip Walter Foden is quickly becoming a key player at Manchester City.

The England international has been one of the stars of Pep Guardiola's side post-lockdown and his value to the team was highlighted in the 1-1 draw away at West Ham last Saturday.

Foden was inexplicably left out of City's starting XI at the London Stadium, but was still named Man of the Match after replacing Sergio Aguero at half-time.

The 20-year-old scored City's equaliser and was a constant threat after his introduction. As a result, Guardiola simply had to start the silky attacking midfielder against Marseille in the Champions League last night.

Predictably, the decision to play with Foden from the first whistle paid dividends as City cruised to a 3-0 win in the Orange Velodrome thanks to goals from Ferran Torres, Ilkay Gundogan and Raheem Sterling.

Foden & Sterling celebrate

Foden was named Man of the Match for the second consecutive game and he also produced one of the filthiest first touches we've seen in a long, long time.

The Englishman managed to pluck the ball out of the air with effortless ease, guiding it over an opposing players' knee in the process, before stylishly offloading possession to teammate Kevin De Bruyne.

Honestly, you're going to want to watch this on repeat for a little while...

Foden's filthy first touch

If only the cameras had listened to Jermaine Jeans in commentary and shown a close-up replay of Foden's masterpiece!

There's a reason why City fans have nicknamed their newest midfield genius the 'Stockport Iniesta' and the sight of him fulfilling his immeasurable potential is a glorious one - especially for the English.

For years, the Three Lions have been crying out for a playmaker and in Foden, they've finally found a suitable candidate to be the country's creator-in-chief.

With Guardiola as his mentor, the sky really is the limit for the 20-year-old sensation.
