Three years ago today, England ruled the world.
Okay, it was only the U17 World Cup but the Three Lions were victorious in India, smashing Spain 5-2 in the final.
Fast forward three years and each member of the 21-man squad are entering their 20s. They must all be Premier League regulars and made a few appearances for England's senior team, right?
Well, not quite.
While some are well on their way to becoming superstars, others are still looking for opportunities to make a name for themselves in the professional game.
So, on the three-year anniversary of England's U17's World Cup triumph, we've decided to take a look at the entire squad and ask: Where are they now?
GK - Curtis Anderson (Wycombe Wanderers)
In the last-16 three years ago against Japan, Anderson saved a penalty in the shootout before scoring his own. He spent seven years at Manchester City before moving to American side Charlotte Independence in March 2019. He only lasted five months there before signing for Championship side Wycombe on a one-year deal in September 2020.
GK - Josef Bursik (Stoke City - on loan at Doncaster)
Burski signed for Stoke from AFC Wimbledon following the 2017 tournament, spending time on loan at non-league sides Hednesford Town and AFC Telford. He spent last season in League One at Accrington Stanley, where he played 20 times. He remains in League One for the 2020/21 campaign, on loan at Doncaster Rovers.
GK - William Crellin (Fleetwood Town - on loan at Bolton)
Crellin has made nine first-team appearances for Joey Barton’s Fleetwood Town in League One. He’s currently out on-loan to Bolton in League Two, where he’s first choice goalkeeper.
DF - Timothy Eyoma (Tottenham - on loan at Lincoln City)
Eyoma has made six first-team appearances at Spurs in cup competitions. He’s since been on loan at Lincoln in League One since January 2020.
DF - Lewis Gibson (Everton - on loan at Reading)
Yet to make a first-team appearance at Everton after joining from Newcastle in 2017. However, the 20-year-old is highly-rated at Goodison Park and made 11 appearances on loan at Fleetwood last season. This campaign, he’s on loan at Championship side Reading.
DF - Marc Guehi (Chelsea - on loan at Swansea)
Guehi actually scored in the final as England beat Spain three years ago today. He’s made two League Cup appearances for Chelsea’s first-team - his debut coming against Grimsby in September 2019. He’s now on loan to Championship side Swansea, where he also spent last season.
DF - Jonathan Panzo (Dijon)
Panzo left Chelsea for Monaco in 2018 and made three appearances for Les Monégasques before moving to fellow Ligue 1 side, Dijon in August 2020.
DF - Joel Latibeaudiere (Manchester City)
The centre-back spent last season on loan at FC Twente and is being chased by several Championship sides this summer, with the likes of Swansea and Reading looking to sign him on a temporary basis. Whether he’ll get a chance to make it at the Etihad remains to be seen. He was the captain during the victorious tournament three years ago.
DF - Steven Sessegnon (Fulham - on loan at Bristol City)
The twin brother of Ryan has played 16 times for Fulham but is currently on loan to Championship side Bristol City.
MD - George McEachran (Chelsea - on loan at Maastricht)
The younger brother of former Chelsea starlet, Josh. Last season, he had a short spell in the Dutch second division with Cambuur and returned there for 2020/21 with Maastricht.
MD - Phil Foden (Manchester City)
You’ve probably heard of this guy. Foden has played 78 times for boyhood club Manchester City and has the world at his feet. He’s already been capped by England too.
MD - Tashan Oakley-Boothe (Stoke City)
Oakley-Boothe made an appearance for Tottenham back in 2017 in the League Cup against Barnsley. However, he joined Stoke in January 2020 and has played eight times for the Championship side. The midfielder suffered a head injury in the semi-final against Turkey which ruled him out of the final.
MD - Angel Gomes (Lille - on loan at Boavista)
Gomes was tipped to break into Manchester United’s first-team and was certainly highly-rated by fans. He did play 10 times before leaving Old Trafford on a free to sign a five-year deal with Lille in August 2020. He’s spending this season in Portugal with Boavista, where he’s already making a big impression.
MD - Jadon Sancho (Borussia Dortmund)
Manchester United refused to pay the £110m required to sign him from Borussia Dortmund this summer. It’s hardly surprising the German club rate the 20-year-old that highly after two incredible seasons in the Bundesliga. One of the biggest talents in world football.
MD - Nya Kirby (Crystal Palace)
Kirby made his Palace debut last month, appearing in the League Cup against Bournemouth.
MD - Callum Hudson-Odoi (Chelsea)
Hudson-Odoi almost became the latest English talent to move to Germany with Bayern Munich keen to sign him. But he remained at Chelsea, where he’s made 66 first-team appearances. Considering the arrivals of Kai Havertz, Hakim Ziyech and Timo Werner, Hudson-Odoi may find regular football hard to come by at Stamford Bridge.
MD - Morgan Gibbs-White (Wolves - on loan at Swansea)
Gibbs-White has played 70 times for Wolves’ first-team - including 26 games in the Premier League during the 2018/19 campaign. He’s also been capped three times at England under-21 level. He will spend this season at Swansea.
MD - Emile Smith Rowe (Arsenal)
Smith Rowe joined Arsenal as a 10-year-old and has already made 12 appearances for the Gunners, scoring three times. He’s had loan spells at RB Leipzig and Huddersfield but could well be staying at the Emirates this season.
MD - Conor Gallagher (Chelsea - on loan at West Brom)
Gallagher is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea but enjoyed spells on loan at Charlton and Swansea last season. This campaign, he’ll be looking to prove he’s capable of playing Premier League football.
ST - Rhian Brewster (Sheffield United)
Brewster scored eight goals during the tournament, winning the Golden Boot award. He only made four first-team appearances for Liverpool but showed his worth on loan at Swansea last season, scoring 11 times in 22 games. That earned him a £23.5m move to Sheffield United.
ST - Danny Loader (Porto)
Loader only managed two goals in 35 appearances for Reading. Somehow, that earned him a move to Porto, where he’s playing for their B side. But he’s already scored as many goals in Portugal than he managed for Reading, bagging twice in just five appearances.
