Football fans were sadly denied the chance to watch Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi go head-to-head for the first time since 2018 on Wednesday evening.

Ronaldo continues to recover from Covid-19 and Juve badly missed their talismanic forward at the Allianz Stadium.

Messi produced a Man of the Match performance in Turin, setting up Ousmane Dembele’s opener before netting from the penalty spot in stoppage time.

The legendary Argentine superstar’s cross-field pass for Dembele’s goal was special.

And the 33-year-old completed a fine individual performance by scoring his third goal of the season late on.

After the match finished, Barcelona raised eyebrows with a tweet sent directly to Juventus’s Twitter account.

The tweet, which featured a shot of Messi in action, said: “We are glad you were able to see the [Goat emoji] on your pitch, @juventusfcen! [kiss emoji].”

The Catalan outfit taking absolutely no prisoners with that tweet.

The two European powerhouses had been involved in a Twitter exchange earlier this week, and Barça made sure they had the last laugh.

However, things might have been different had Alvaro Morata been able to time his runs better on the night.

The Juve forward had three goals disallowed for offside over the course of the 90 minutes. All three goals were correctly ruled out, too.

The two sides will meet against on December 8. No doubt Ronaldo will be desperate to exact revenge on Barça and prove that he deserves the title of football’s GOAT.
