Bugatti have lifted the lid on an immensely powerful new hypercar, capable of speeds over 300mph.

Called the Bugatti Bolide, the hypercar generates an insane amount of power, 1800 horsepower to be exact.

However, right now the Bolide is just a concept car, meaning it’s not available for purchase. The concept car isn’t road legal at present either – designed purely for track driving – so don’t expect to spot it in the supermarket car park.

Bugatti have created some of the world’s fastest cars over the years, including the Veyron, the Chiron and most recently another track-focused car in the Divo.

However, according to the company, the Bolide is one of the most extreme creations in the company’s long history.

Bugatti president Stephan Winkelmann said: "We asked ourselves how we could realise the mighty W16 engine as a technical symbol of the brand in its purest form - with solely four wheels, engine, gearbox, steering wheel and, as the only luxury, two seats."

Achim Anscheidt, who is the director of design at Bugatti, added: "In my 16 years at Bugatti, I have never worked on a more extreme vehicle concept."

That 16-cylinder engine, mentioned by Winklemann, is a tweaked version of the engine found in the Chiron.

The modifications have reduced the engine’s weight, with weight-saving alterations made all around the car. As a result, Bugatti claim it will manage over 300mph.

The makers claim that the car offers “the ultimate Bugatti driving experience” and that “the Bugatti Bolide is the most extreme, uncompromising, fastest and lightest vehicle concept in the company’s recent history – with an incredible weight-to-power ration of 0.67 kg per PS.”

Bugatti fans will be disappointed then that they can’t get their hands on the Bolide. However, the technical innovations in the Bolide concept car are sure to be seen in Bugatti’s upcoming future releases, so stay tuned.
