Regular players of FIFA Ultimate Team no doubt dread it when they see Joe Gomez in the opposing team – now he’s been given a monstrous Team of the Week card which means that dread has just multiplied.Gomez’s rare gold card – rated at 83 and on the market for around 130,000 coins on PS4 – is one of the best in the game as far as defensive players are concerned. His 83 defending and 80 physical are solid ratings for a centre-back, whilst his dribbling and passing stats mean he is good on the ball as well.Gomez’s status as one of the fastest defenders in the Premier League, meanwhile, makes his pace rating an imposing 82.And thanks to his performance in Liverpool’s 2-1 win over Sheffield United last weekend, for which he received a WhoScored rating of 7.5, Gomez has been given an in-form card in the latest Team of the Week squad on Ultimate Team.It is not a huge upgrade, with all stats going up by two rating points (bar passing, which has gone up by three to 69), but it will be a noticeable difference in-game.The card will only be available to those with plenty of cash in hand as it stands, though, with the price currently at 460k coins on PS4 and 430k on Xbox One.

Gomez’s performances in recent weeks have been even more impressive given the loss of star defender Virgil van Dijk to an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

The 23-year-old has been joined at the heart of Liverpool’s backline by Fabinho, who has also received plaudits for the way he has adapted from his usual defensive midfield role.

However, the Brazilian suffered a hamstring injury in the 2-0 win over Danish champions Midtjylland in the Champions League on Tuesday night, and with Joel Matip also currently on the sidelines, Gomez is currently Liverpool’s only fit senior centre half.

If the Reds have to rely on Gomez more and more in the coming weeks, we could soon be seeing him grace the FUT Team of the Week once again.
