Donny van de Beek's future at Manchester United has been the subject of much debate over the past week or so.

The Dutchman was an unused substitute in the 0-0 draw with Chelsea and that raised yet more questions about the Red Devils' move to sign him for £40m this summer.

Van de Beek is yet to start a Premier League game for United, but he featured from the opening whistle last night in the Champions League versus RB Leipzig.

So how did he do? Well, the former Ajax man repaid Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's faith by turning in a wonderful performance at Old Trafford.

He didn't get on the scoresheet, but his tireless work in United's new-look midfield diamond and ability to resist Leipzig's press significantly contributed to United's 5-0 win.

In the BT Sport studio, former United player Owen Hargreaves was full of praise for 23-year-old and insisted he can be the English club's very own Thomas Muller.

"I think he's a really good player," Hargreaves said, per Daily Mail. "He hasn't had the opportunity to show it.

"He could be like what Thomas Muller is for Bayern Munich - the style. Everybody tried to get Thomas Muller out of the team, but once he's in, you can't get him out in terms of goals, assists, he's very unselfish, he can press the ball, he works in a midfield three, he can play as an 8 or a 10.

"[Van de Beek] is one of those. Once he's in the team Ole is going to find it hard to get him out."

Praise of the highest order from Hargreaves.

Muller's orthodox style of play as an attacking midfielder has helped both Bayern Munich and the German national team enjoy huge success over the past decade.

In his 504 games across all competitions for Bayern, Muller has scored 204 goals and provided 198 assists, a simply outrageous return from a truly unique player.

If Van de Beek can replicate even a third of that in United colours, his signing will be labelled as a huge success. No pressure, Donny...
