WWE news: Danny Burch on his journey from release to top of NXT tag team mountain [Exclusive]

Burch has had an incredible journey in WWE

Danny Burch and Oney Lorcan captured the NXT Tag Team Championships earlier this month.

The duo - with a little assist from Pat McAfee - defeated Breezango to win their first gold in WWE.

Climbing to the top of the tag team mountain has been tough for both men, especially Burch.

Back in 2014, he was released by the company after spending three years in NXT.

A number of years on the independent circuit followed, before 'The Guv'nor' made his return to WWE's developmental territory - signing a new contract in 2018.

It was a second chance for Burch - and he knows second chances don't come often in this business.

Speaking to GIVEMESPORT this week, the Brit opened up about his journey to the top of the NXT tag team division, which began the day he was released six years go.

Burch is back in NXT

"For me, when I got released the first time I stepped outside the building looked back and said to myself 'until I hear 100% no, I will step back inside this building'.

"I did whatever I could. I went back home, moved back to the US and took that plunge.

"I walked away from British wrestling during it's biggest boom period, put my head down and pulled my socks up.

Burch is back in WWE full time

"I destroyed the American indies, went everywhere I could go and got invited to the first-ever [WWE] United Kingdom tournament.

"I wasn't taking no for an answer and as fate had it, I had the chance to come back.

Second chances don't come often. I'm very humbled and privileged to have that chance and I'm not going to waste it.

Burch has aligned himself with some top NXT stars

And waste it he won't.

Burch made an appearance at Halloween Havoc this week, sharing the ring with Oney, Pat McAfee and the returning Pete Dunne - who shockingly turned heel - aligning himself with the trio.

Six years ago, Burch was released by WWE. Now, he's sharing the spotlight with some of NXT's top stars and will no doubt be involved in a storyline with Undisputed Era going forward.

What a journey it's been.
