If there was ever a season to fish out the best differentials for your Fantasy Premier League team, it's this one.

With many of the traditional big hitters not performing consistently enough for our liking, this crazy 2020/2021 Premier League season has made putting together a successful FPL team even more difficult than it normally is.

It's mostly just Heung-min Son, Harry Kane and to an extent, Mohamed Salah being the only players you can almost guarantee a points return each week. The rest? Too unreliable.

The new pricing structure adds an even harder element to it, with the midfield options packed with premium-priced players and defence and attack being a harder playing field to get value from.

But there are some differential defenders knocking about that are pulling in some decent FPL points returns while also having very low ownership, which gives players willing to take a gamble on them a nice opportunity to get some lovely green arrows in their mini-leagues.

So, ahead of Friday's 6:30pm deadline, we've taken a look at three differential defenders you should be looking at ahead of GW7, all with ownership of less than 10%...

Branislav Ivanovic - £4.5m

Branislav Ivanovic

Yeah, West Brom have one of the worst defensive records in the Premier League after six games this season, but they've looked a lot tighter at the back since the former Chelsea defender made his debut in the goalless draw with Burnley two weeks ago.

The Baggies have gone from conceding 10 goals in their opening four league games to just once in their last two, that coming late on in their 1-1 draw with Brighton earlier this week.

Ivanovic's experience looks like it could be playing a positive role in Slaven Bilic's side shoring things up at the back, and we all know he can be a bit of a goal threat from his time at Stamford Bridge?

He's currently owned by 0.1% of FPL teams and at a price of just £4.5m, he's the perfect enabler for any manager's FPL team.

Aaron Cresswell - £5.0m

Aaron Cresswell

West Ham have been one of the surprising outfits of the Premier League season so far, having avoided defeat against Tottenham and Man City in their last two outings, while thrashing both Wolves and Leicester before that.

The Hammers' upturn in form has coincided with David Moyes' decision to deploy five at the back, with Aaron Cresswell slotting in as a left-sided centre-half. His experience as a left-back means he's still offering a nice attacking outlet for West Ham with regular dangerous crosses in the box, which have resulted in three assists from there this season.

West Ham have kept two clean sheets this season and while do they have a tough trip to Anfield to contend with this weekend, their fixtures after that include Fulham (H), Sheffield United (A) and Aston Villa (H), which gives them more chance to build on their pretty decent defensive record.

Cresswell is owned by just 6.4% of FPL managers and is priced at just £5.0m, which makes him an affordable and relatively effective asset to have.

Kurt Zouma - £5.1m

Kurt Zouma

Kurt Zouma has gone under the radar a little bit as a decent Chelsea defensive option for FPL managers this season.

The France international is a real goal threat from set-pieces and he already has two goals to his name this term. While Frank Lampard's side haven't exactly been defensively sound so far this term, they've looked a lot tighter in their last two games.

With two clean sheets from six, including one at Old Trafford last weekend, the Blues still have a lot improvement to make at the back but Zouma offers the attacking potential that makes him an interesting option to consider at just £5.1m.

He's only owned by 5.9% of managers and with Burnley (A), Sheffield United (H) and Newcastle (A) coming up, you could do worse than bringing the 26-year-old in.
